Following the tradition of HTC's unibody smartphones, the late September announced HTC Rhyme is said to be created for people who require advanced features for a phone that is sleek and fits seamlessly into their lives. Running on Android 2.3.5/Gingerbread, the Rhyme is powered by a Qualcomm single core Snapdragon CPU at 1 GHz. It supports quadband GSM/GPRS/EDGE as well as triband UMTS/HSDPA (14.4 Mbps)/HSUPA (5.76 Mbps) at 850/900/2100 MHz and comes with Bluetooth 3.0, WiFi b/g/n with tethering capabilities, aGPS, ANT+ support and an FM radio. Furthermore it features the Android typical ambient light-, proximity- and G-sensors as well as a digital compass.

The 3.7" IPS-powered LCD capacitive touchscreen supports WVGA and the 5 megapixel autofocus main camera on the back with its F2.2 lens comes with a supporting flash LED and BSI sensor (for better low-light captures) with HDR support allows to record 720p HD videos. A second VGA camera is located on the front which can be used for video telephony. The Rhyme comes with 768 MB of RAM and 4 GB of ROM which can be expanded with micro SD memory cards. The device comes with four backlight illuminated touch sensitive navigation keys and weights, at size of 119 x 60.8 x 10.85 mm, 130 g - including the 1600 mAh non-removable Lithium-ion battery.

On the top, next to the power button, is the 3.5 mm stereo headset jack located, which is also used to hold the HTC Charm (see bellow). On the right side of the device is the volume rocker located, which can be also used to zoom in/out while in camera mode. The MHL HDMI-compatible micro USB port on the left is protected by a flap. On the back, bellow the camera, the Rhyme features a connector which is used with the device's docking satiation (see bellow).

Following the tradition of the early PDAs and (HTC) smartphones, the HTC Rhyme comes with a Bluetooth enabled docking station which transforms the Rhyme an alarm clock and music center. The docking station includes loudspeakers for listening music and even allows to be used for hands-free phone calls. The micro USB port on the back is also MHL HDMI compatible which means the docking station can be also connected to TVs. As soon as the Rhyme is put into the docking station, the device automatically launches HTC' Dock Mode application.

UPDATE: Unlike HTC says on its own website, the recent tests showed and confirmed that neither the HTC Rhyme itself nor the docking station is MHL HDMI compatible!

Another accessory which comes with the HTC Rhyme is the HTC Charm. It's a small call and message indicator which can dangles from your bag or purse and is glowing whenever a call or text message (but unfortunately not E-Mail) is received. The HTC Charm fits into the phones 3.5 mm headset port and provides a stable textile cable, long enough to reach out of pockets, bags or purses to makes it easier to locate the Rhyme when its in a bag or purse.

The HTC Rhyme also comes with a new stereo headset with distinctive HTC design DNA. The flat cable is said to be tangle free and features a low profile in-line control box & microphone. The Music Remote Control lets you easily answer and make calls and play back your music by simply pressing a button.

The HTC Rhyme comes in three colors: Clearwater, Hourglass (pictured above) and Plum (the color Verizon Wireless will be offering in the U.S.). The HTC Rhyme is now available in the United States (exclusively with Verizon Wireless) and across Europe, Middle East, Africa and Asia-Pacific. The docking station, tangle free headphones and Charm will be included in the box (country and carrier specific/dependent). Without a contract, the HTC Rhyme is available for around 439 Euro.
