Following the HTC Dream (T-Mobile G1), the HTC Magic and the HTC Hero, the recently announced HTC Tattoo (still known as HTC Click) is HTC's fourth Android smartphone. While the HTC Tattoo was introduced to be a budget Android smartphone, it's a way more consumer focused Android smartphone but nevertheless, it's also utilizing HTC's new Sense UI platform for Android. The HTC Tattoo runs on Android 1.6 (Donut) and is powered by a Qualcomm MSM7225 CPU at 528 MHz. It features quadband GSM/GPRS/EDE as well as dualband UMTS/HSDPA at 900/2100 MHz, WiFi b/g, Bluetooth 2.0+EDR, aGPS and an FM radio. The 2.8", and this is new for Android smartphones, resistive touchscreen supports QVGA while the fixfocus camera supports 3.2 megapixel.

Unlike previous HTC Android smartphones, the HTC Tattoo isn't featuring a trackball but again a more traditional 4-way D-pad as previously also used for Windows Mobile phones. Quite standard these days but still pretty new for HTC is the 3.5 mm stereo headset jack. The device is backed-up by 512 MB ROM and 256 MB RAM which can be expanded with microSD memory cards. To make the Tattoo more personal, it's possible the change the front cover well as the back-part. Therefore, users will be able to get new color cover or mix the colors of different covers.

HTC will release the Tattoo in Europe in October and in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, the device will retail for 339 Euro/499 Swiss Franken. Furthermore, HTC announced that the Tattoo will be carried in Germany by E-Plus, O2 and Vodafone.

Arne, thanks a lot for the high quality photos. I haven't expected anything else from you and the unwired. Thumbs up!

While I totally love the size and idea of removable covers, it's too bad that the device is so under-featured. QVGA, resistive touch screen and the 3.2 MP fix focus camera are a no go for me. I like HTC Sense but the Tattoo isn't my device. I'm currently considering to upgrade from the Dream to HTC Hero and hoped the Tattoo is somewhat better but this is definitely too budget.
