Indeed, the HTC Universal - also known as T-Mobile MDA IV, Vodafone VPA or Orange SPV 3G is running Windows Mobile 5.0 as announced earlier today.

In case you've missed Bill Gates keynote today, where he displayed its versatility on the HTC Universal here we go with some exclusive proofs - as you can expect it from the::unwired. On the photos below you can see a prototype I got my hands on which is running Microsoft Windows Mobile 5.0.

Since it was an early prototype I can not tell you more about the device itself, because it was a proof of concept only - to show Windows Mobile 5.0 on an HTC Universal.

Anyway - stay tuned for some more Universal information soon!

Cheers ~ Arne

More and more devices are out in the market, making it harder to people to choose the perfect fit. HTC universal again looks awesome but now without a size drawback which is again an issue.Yet I still beleive it lacks some fruitfull additions like radio and vga output for example. Well I guess it comes in our nature to always look for more.

Anyway they say the device should be available around octobre. I am guessing the ME version will be called i-mate IV. So it's fair to hope the device wont be delayed. The question remains about price!!! looking at current 3G devices prices, I think "unfortunately" HTC universal's price might exceed $1,000.

I share the same point with Arne, I dont think anyone will use it in PDA style, laptop mode is a lot more attracting. Although I do have some concerns on how to view the caller name when the device is in laptop mode and closed.

Anyway, better start saving money for it wink

@haseebsaqaf: This isn't supported by the Pocket PC platform. To synchronize several devices, you always need a PC in between.

Dear arne hess,

Your suggestion of incompatibility to sync between pocket PC s are OK,

But I did it by syncing via Microsoft exchange server by registering on clubimate which offers free account on i mate devices with their IMEI code,it works very well for me to sync contacts, calendar, tasks and e mail even with attachments,

Thanks,

Any new news about a possible CDMA/EVDO version of the HTC Universal?  I am hoping with the "supposed" dual release of a CDMA version of the HTC Wizard (the Apache), that we might be in line for a release of a CDMA Universal.

incase ur wondering when this device will be out...

i am guessing it will be out in an exhibition called Gitex, which is an anual exhibition in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.. i have been to the last three... its awesome... thats where they launched the pda 2k .... it was one hell of a launch... im allmost certain that they will launch the universal in gitex

gitex is held on sep 24... which confirms with all the othter roumors/statements...

google up gitex for more info

I saw the jasjar launched in gitex.
Since it is priced 4500 dhs nobody sees it worth enough paying the money
It has a drawback of carry case,
You have to take it out of the pouch for every time of operation
That feels little bit difficult
