Officially announced yesterday by Vodafone, the HTC Velocity 4G is HTC's first LTE device supporting Europe's 4G bands. Running on Android 2.3.7/Gingerbread and enhanced by HTC Sense 3.5, the Velocity 4G is powered by a Qualcomm APQ 8060 dual-core CPU at 1.5 GHz. As previously confirmed by the GCF, the Velocity 4G supports quadband GSM/GPRS/EDGE as well as dualband UMTS/HSDPA+ up to 14.4 Mbps/HSUPA at 900/2100 MHz, dualband LTE at 800 MHz/2.6 GHz up to 100 Mbps, Bluetooth 3.0 and WiFi b/g/n. The 4,5"capacitive TFT LCD multitouch display supports qHD ad 540 x 960 pixel. The 8 megapixel autofocus  camera on the back comes with a dual LED flash and allows to record 1080p HD videos. The front facing camera supports 1.3 megapixel.

The Velocity 4G comes with 1 GB DDR2 RAM and 16 GB eMMC ROM which can be expanded with micoSD memory cards. The micro USB port is MHL compatible and allows to connect the Velocity 4G with HDMI. But surprisingly enough, the Velocity 4G doesn't feature Beats Audio. The glossy white device, which sports an aluminum battery cover measures 129 x 67 x 11,27 cm and weights, including the 160 mAh battery, 163 g.

Since the Velocity 4G is still running on Android 2.3 but not on Android 4.0, it's sporting the more traditional button layout, including a home, menu, back and search key.

The HTC Velocity 4G will be launched exclusively in selected European markets by Vodafone. In Germany, it will be available in areas with Vodafone LTE coverage form 1. March. Neither Vodafone nor HTC have yet announced a price but HTC confirmed me that it's not going to release an open market version.

UPDATE 22.02.2012: Vodafone Germany announced today that depending on the contract, the HTC Velocity 4G will be available for 49.90 Euro (with "SuperFlat Internet Allnet" und LTE-Option) to 99.90 Euro (with "SuperFlat Internet Plus" und LTE-Option). Without a contract, Vodafone Germany will offer the Velocity 4G for 599,90 Euro.

Cheers ~ Arne
