Sling Media today announced that its award-winning Slingbox is being offered by Viasat, the largest Free-TV and Pay-TV operator in Scandinavia and the Baltics, as part of the company's Viasat Everywhere service. Viasat Everywhere allows digital subscribers to watch and control their home TV programming on any Internet-enabled computer.
Support for the Viasat Everywhere service also comes in the latest SlingPlayer software which includes on-screen photo-realistic remote controls that deliver a familiar look and feel so that Viasat customers can control their digital set-top box from their computer the same way they would sitting in front of their TV. The new SlingPlayer software also includes the latest enhancements to Sling Media's proprietary SlingStream video streaming technology which optimizes video quality when streaming on both a home network or when streaming remotely. Finally, the new software includes 16:9 widescreen video support and the ability to customize the software with a range of pre-installed or user-created skins.
"Slingbox, marketed under the name Viasat Everywhere, is initially available for digital subscribers in Sweden, and shortly after in Denmark and Norway. Viasat Everywhere is the perfect solution for those of our subscribers who want to access their favorite programs wherever they are. Last year we introduced our PVR, Viasat+, which has revolutionized the viewing for everyone who has acquired it. Now we are adding yet another service that puts Viasat at the forefront of the technical evolution." says Ulrik Bengtsson, CEO of Viasat Sweden.
"Sling Media has enjoyed collaborating with such a distinguished satellite television provider as Viasat to deliver this new TV-viewing service to the Scandinavian market and we look forward to working with them on innovative new technology and services in the future," said Blake Krikorian, co-founder and CEO of Sling Media, Inc. "Viasat Everywhere, powered by the Slingbox, will provide customers with a powerful new way to watch and control their Viasat TV experience on a wide variety of Internet-enabled devices whether it's around the home, at the office or on holiday."
Viasat Everywhere is available today in Sweden for 2.695 SEK (around 290 Euro) and is being sold through retail stores as well as direct by Viasat to its customers. More information can be found by going to Sling Media's web site at www.slingmedia.com and clicking on the Swedish flag.
