PREVIEW: Carcomm International Mobile PDA Cradle for iPAQ H3800, 3900 and 5400

Today I received the Mobile PDA Cradle for IPAQ H3800, 3900 and 5400 series devices from Carcomm International BV.

It's a cradle to be used in your car (maybe even motorbike) for the IPAQ with original bottom connector and steady fitting for the IPAQ H3800, H3900 and H54 series.

Since the cradle is designed to be used in cars it comes with a 12 volt adapter so you can charge your iPAQ while it is connected and safely stored.

In addition it also includes RS-232 and PS/2 connectors for connecting the iPAQ with a GPS receiver or other accessories.

This cradle seems to be the perfect accessory for me to find a safe place in my car while I'm using the iPAQ for car navigation.
During the weekend or so I will give it a closer look as well as I will try to find a place to mount it to.

Carcomm also offers Mobile Cradles for popular Pocket PCs like Fujitsu-Siemens Loox 600, xda/ MDA/Q-Tek 1010/Siemens SX56 and IPAQ H3600/3700 series.

Cheers ~ Arne

Does it work with an expansion pack attached?

Posted by Arne Hess on 23.06.03 - 12:53:20

No, as you can see on the picture above it wont... Which is the biggest concern I have, specially if you have GPS maps on your CF or PC card... :-(

Get a SD, put your maps on there, and stop your whining. :-P

I would want to use it with the GSM/GPRS expansion pack especially.  I'm still waiting for an iPAQ Phone Edition.

@adamz: Good point, while I was driving yesterday I also thought about my iPAQ/PC card jacket/GlobeTrotter combination...

But no way, it's not designed to be used with jackets.

Is there a power adaptor for motorbikes? Or do you have to fiddle around and make your own connection?

@marvinwb: Honestly I have no clue how the motorbike plugs looks like... ;-) If it's not the same you have for cars I think you need an adapter or whatever you need to connect it.
