PROCESS: Making the final Jolla "The Other Half" Order - Now Possible through Invitation E-Mails

Have you also pre-ordered your Jolla Sailfish OS smartphone during the first wave back in spring or the second wave back in summer; and have already received last Friday's E-Mail which told you that you should receive a second E-Mail with further details soon? Great, that's what I did as well and today I received the promised second E-Mail which allowed me to complete my pre-order. Back in May, I've pre-booked and paid "The Second Half" 100 Euro campaign and I always wondered how this will continue. Beside receiving my T-Shirt (which unfortunately arrived way too late, don't hope it's an indicator for how much longer I have to wait for the phone), the campaign was said to give me a discount of 100 Euro for the phone since I already paid that amount in advance.

To recap, Jolla's first smartphone - which is called TOH (The Other Half) - is a Sailfish OS based smartphone which features a Qualcomm dual-core CPU at 1.4 GHz and GSM/3G/4G LTE connectivity (which is said to work on 6 continents). It sports a Gorilla 2 Glass Ample 4.5" IPS qHD display with 5-point multi-touch, a 8 megapixel autofocus camera with LED flash and a 2 megapixel front-facing camera. It comes with 1 GB RAM and 16 GB flash storage which can be expanded with MicroSD memory cards. The Jolla TOH measures 131 x 68 mm x 9.9 mm and weights 141 g. The initial launch version comes with a White and exclusive Poppy Red (Limited Edition) "The Other Half" battery cover.

So the key to finally confirm the pre-order is the second E-Mail which provides the login details for the Jolla shop, where the shopping cart is already waiting; based on the details given when the Jolla account was created.

Clicking the link from the E-Mail opens the Jolla shop where the shipping details (address, etc.) can be confirmed and which allows to make the final credit card or PayPal payment. Interesting enough, but not a surprise at all, is the fact that the quantity can't be changed - one device per person only!

As you can see above, the price is 241.13 Euro which isn't too bad at all, keeping in mind that I've already paid 100 Euro and the official pre-order price was 399 Euro. However, the price above is without the fixed shipping costs of 12.10 Euro and the Finnish 24 % VAT; which adds another 60.78 Euro on top, making the pre-order a total of 314.01 Euro - plus the 100 Euro pre-payment. At the end, Jolla's first Sailfish OS smartphone costs me 414.01 Euro (including the exclusive "The Second Half" T-Shirt, which seems to be worth the 14.99 Euro).

While neither the shop page nor the confirmation E-Mail of the order has given me an exact shipping date, the site indicates a shipping time of three to four weeks; however, it wasn't said from when? From my payment, from device availability in the warehouse, from official launch this week? Receiving the phone before Christmas seems to be possible but then we have to keep in mind that now the time is starting where a lot of packages are send; which could cause further delays. Anyway, Jolla's confirmation E-Mail said that an E-Mail will be send with a tracking code as soon as the phone is on the way.

Cheers ~ Arne
