We have heard some rumors about the new T-Mobile MDA compact II (you remember, the follower of the T-Mobile MDA compact) which is expected to be the HTC Charmer but we haven't seen any photos or drawings so far.
What we know from previous information, the MDA compact II is expected to includes W-LAN as well as 128 MB ROM and should work with Windows Mobile 5.0.
While I was away over the weekend, I got the following scans of a device which looks like a T-Mobile MDA compact (aka HTC Magician) but two buttons has changed. The previous Calendar and Contacts buttons are Start and ok now (see red circles below):
I haven't seen this button configuration for a Magician yet and the sender of the E-Mails claims that this is the Charmer (aka T-Mobile MDA compact II).
So no, I don't have the proof yet - that the device above is the compact II but it looks reasonable, especially since we know the compact II is expected to be - more or less - the same device as the Magician, beside the W-LAN ROM and Windows Mobile 5.0 support.
If this is really the MDA compact II, T-Mobile made something right - to relaunch such a successful device in the same case with updated features (as O2 did before with the relaunch of the Xda II as Xda IIi).
But if this is a Windows Mobile 5.0 powered Charmer, I really wonder why it also misses the two buttons bellow the screen for easier one hand navigation. On the other hand, also the Eten M600 will not has these buttons (and it is a Windows Mobile 5.0 device) as well as the HTC Universal excludes it (in PDA mode). So yes, while Microsoft prepared everything in the OS, the new features aren't picked-up by all ODMs yet.
Cheers ~ Arne
