Not too long anymore and the European Football Championship 2012 kicks-off in Poland and the Ukraine end of this week and while most matches are happening in the later afternoon or evening, you might not be able to watch every game live. Nevertheless, owners of a Google Android or Microsoft Windows Phone can at least follow every match on their phones, in addition to getting extra news and views around the tournament! While there are countless of local apps covering the Euro 2012, the UEFA and Orange teamed-up and released the official Android and Windows Phone apps back in April already. However, you might have overseen it because the Euro 2012 was still far away, but now it's definitely time to load your phones.
According to both, the Windows Phone Marketplace and Google Play Android Market descriptions, the official Euro 2012 app gives football fans access to the final tournament of the 14th UEFA European Football Championship. It informs about live results, features free customizable alerts, news, photos and standings. In addition to the free information, the Android app is also providing video highlights from midnight after the end of the match (but against payment only).
The Android version, which is available free of charge in two versions, for smartphone and tablets, can be downloaded from the Google Play Market. The Windows Phone app is also available, free of charge, from the Windows Phone Marketplace but unfortunately not available in all countries. U.S. users for instance don't get it listed at all, which makes no sense.
