According to Taiwanese DigiTimes, HTC has set up a new subsidiary called BandRich Incorporated, to develop related 3G UMTS and 3.5G HSDPA /HSUPA (high-speed downlink packet access/high-speed uplink package access) technologies, applications and mobile devices, according to market sources.
BandRich, which was established in the second quarter of this year with a registered capital of around US$ 8.1 million, is expected to develop feature-rich 3G/3.5G handsets for HTC to differentiate the company's products from other OEM handset makers, the sources said.

Wen Kuo, former director of the Personal Mobile Communications and Computing (PMCC) division of Compal Electronics, now serves as president of the new handset design company, the sources noted.

BandRich declined to comment on the report.
