Sling Media's SlingPlayer is free of charge for PCs and Macs, the
Mobile client for Windows Mobile Smartphones and Pocket PCs costs 19.99 GBP/US$
No question, the SlingPlayer Mobile is worth the money (especially if you are
traveling or commuting) but in the past it was some hassle to move the key
to one device to another (of the same platform - Pocket PC to Pocket PC and
Smartphone to Smartphone).
The registration key includes two parts - an E-Mail address and a numerical key
and so far, you had to contact the customer service to get a new key generated
because each SlingPlayer Mobile license is valid to be used on one device only.
If you are using many devices (or changing your devices frequently like I
do), or even sometimes after a ROM upgrade, it was somewhat painful to register
a new device/SlingPlayer Mobile because you had to contact Sling Mobiles
customer service that they disable the old key (and therefore the device) by
simultaneously generating a new key which could be used with the new device/to
be activated Sling Player Mobile. All this was somewhat time consuming and
involved E-Mails (which are sometimes lost or blocked in spam filters).
Now with the new activation process, you can still use your existing numerical
key to activate the new devices and disconnecting the previous device the same
time. And after you've successfully changed the device and Sling Player Mobile,
you get an E-Mail which confirms the change:
Thanks for using SlingPlayer Mobile! We're glad that you've made us a
part of your mobile experience.
Just as a reminder, your SlingPlayer Mobile registration key is good for
activating one player at a time. As a convenience to you, our one-step
registration transfer service automatically deactivates the previous phone
when you activate a new one. It's one less thing for you to do! This email
confirms that this registration transfer has been completed.
Now that's finally a convenient way to change, switch and upgrade the
SlingPlayer Mobile on several mobile devices. While this change was overdue,
it's finally done.
Cheers ~ Arne
