has revised its mobile portal for smartphones which now combines results from
web, images, local business directories and news searches in one page.
Google believes that users searching on a mobile phone are more likely to be
looking up snippets of information, such as football scores or directions,
rather than conducting in-depth research and the search company has tailored its
mobile results to suit this requirement.
This means that searching for specific terms now provides links to photos of the
terms as well as web pages - as Google said today.
The mobile service also allows users to narrow business search results by
entering an address or ZIP code and saves recently entered locations.
"We're excited to introduce Google's new mobile search service, which will
make it easier and faster for people to find what they're looking for anytime,
anywhere," says Google mobile search product manager Steve Cheng.
"With millions of mobile phones in use worldwide, our goal is to make the Google
search experience even more useful and relevant for users on the go."
The new Google Mobile site is available through mobile.google.com.
