At CES last week, HP showed their latest Windows Media Center Edition PC development, the HP Digital Entertainment Center z550 series, and it seems my
research for the "perfect" Media Center Edition has an end, at least it looks what I expect from a MCE - less PC but more Hi-Fi:
The HP Digital Entertainment Center is an all-in-one digital entertainment solution that goes beyond basic TV recording to provide new viewing and listening experiences. It harnesses the horsepower of a high-performance PC to help personalize and enjoy TV, movies, music, photos and videos, all from one device.
While it requires some RAM and HDD upgrades to make it perfect for me, other
features are truly amazing since it includes a 16x DVD±R/RW double-layer DVD
recorder offering DVD playback at 480p resolution and also offer LightScribe
disc labeling technology which enables users to place a laser imprint on a CD or
DVD.. The back conceals 5 video out connectors, including DVI-D, component
video, VGA, S-Video and composite video output ports, as well as Dolby Digital
5.1 surround sound support via coaxial RCA or optical toslink connections and
analog 7.1 pre-amp surround sound.
In addition, both z550 series models also offers 1000 Gigabit Base-T Ethernet
connectivity, as well as integrated Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g support and FM tuners with
pause and replay capabilities.
The estimated U.S. retail price ranges from $1,499 to $1,999 and both models
will be available in Spring 2005. Now it comes to the question when and if it
will be available in EMEA? Please HP, don't let me handing out this time again!
Cheers ~ Arne
