Looks like HP is working on an update of the HP Messenger Windows Mobile Pocket PC Phone Edition aka iPAQ hw6500 which is called iPAQ hw6700. At least Dave, over at Dave's iPAQ found some more information at HP UK.

While the hw6700 series will also use the same ID as the hw6500 series before and also includes the same 312 MHz Intel XScale CPU, the hw6700 get a doubled memory of 128 MB ROM and, according to HP's UK site, Wi-Fi 802.11g! While the hw6500 includes two memory card slots, one for SD cards and one for miniSD, the hw6700 will include a miniSD slot only. Last but not least, the hw6700 is announced to run Microsoft's latest Windows Mobile 5!

HP is expected to release two versions of the hw6700 range: the hw6715 which includes a camera and the hw6710 which excludes the camera. For sure both versions will support quad-band GSM, GPRS as well as EDGE and also GPS is part of the hw6700 series.

More information and the complete iPAQ hw6500/6700 comparison is available from HP UK's presentation here.

Cheers ~ Arne
