Okay, after the earlier leak of the HTC Apache, you remember, the EVDO brother of the HTC Wizard, the first real photos (and confirmed specification? ) hits the Web, over at

It looks like the earlier specifications became true, except the CPU which seems to be confirmed with 416 MHz (not the rumored 520 MHz):

  • CPU Intel PXA270
  • Speed 416 Mhz
  • RAM size 64 MB
  • Flash size 128 MB
  • Flash Chip type G3
  • Data bus 32 bits
  • Storage size 43.50 MB
  • LCD 240 x 320 TFT
  • Colors 65536

In addition to the specs and the photos, "lucnchboxfett" (who got his hands on the device) also posted his first impressions:

I think the keyboard is better than the blue angel but not as good as the Blackberry keyboard. They really have the best design. The slider feels a little tight and the keys are lighted when pressing a button on them. It doesn't feel heavy to hold the phone but sometimes I think that I am holding a small brick in my hand. It uses a mini USB for charging and sync. I'm so happy to see that, I hate have different cables on my desk to connect another device. I was playing with the WLAN last night and it did detect my setup, but I have it broadcasting and no security. It looks like it only supports WEP for encrption.

Well, what do you think? I don't like the antenna, makes it so 90s but seems to be a great Wizard alternative for the North American market. Yet, there is no confirmation which carrier(s) might pick it up.

Cheers ~ Arne

Under the battery is a modled area to place some type of card. It looks like a mini-SD but it's taller and not quite as wide. I first thought it was a place to store an extra mini-SD, but that is definately not the case...

The slot you see there is for SIM cards which are used in GSM and UMTS networks.
So in GSM and UMTS networks, your telephone number and account isn't related to the device but to the SIM card which means you can easily plug it into another device and use it immediately under the same number and account.
It looks like HTC - the manufacture of the device, is using just a "standard platform" where they removed the SIM card electronic but left the slot.
Basically there is no use for you so just ignore it. smile
