REVEALED: O2 to release a so far unknown Pocket PC called Xda Atom! [UPDATE]

Over at PPCSG, a user called "cheong79" has posted a photo of an O2 Pocket PC Phone Edition which looks like the black edition of the Xda mini but clearly it isn't a HTC Magician, even if it looks like its black brother.
The button-alignment is a different one as well as it looks as it has stereo-speakers (left and right from the lower buttons).
According to "cheong79", the device is called "Xda Atom" and at the moment, nothing else is known.

I have no idea yet, what this device is, where it comes from and when and where it will be released but it's looking good. It looks a little bit like a multimedia Xda, with the plus/minus/previous/next signs on the d-pad.
Either this is a well done fake or it's real but unknown until today. For me, it doesn't looks like a fake at all.

UPDATE: Looks like CNet Asia got more information already since the news was revealed there also. However, right now also CNet hasn't published any specs but what I've heard - the devices is for sure a Windows Mobile 5.0 one (not like the previous Xda mini which is utilizing Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition only).

Cheers ~ Arne

CNET Asia has also listed HTC Wizard as O2 Xda Mini Pro, So Xda Atom seems to be an entirely new device and not just a variant of Wizard. But still we are not sure about that until we hear something official from O2 Asia. Lets keep an eye on www.seeo2.com

Thanks HawkWu! While I haven't received all the features information yet, however I've also heard that the Atom is a "Quanta" device who would be - we have to mention it here - new to Pocket PCs.
Nevertheless, the photos and your feature list looks promising enough to give the device and Quanta? a warm welcome!

Please do not play the joke on professional website like theunwired.com. Xda Atom is not made by Quanta. It's made by HTC and this madel code name is called HTC Athena. Thanks

Posted by HawkWu on 23.09.05 - 07:38:50

It's not Joke. They story is HTC have similer Project call Athena, but O2 decide to adopt the project from Quanta MN1 as O2 Atom.

Actually Quanta have experience for Pocket PC Phone, The first one is sold as Lenove ET-280 and Dallab DP900. The pcitures for O2 Atom is really from Quanta 2nd Pocket PC Phone not HTC.

You will know I say is true soon, I think O2 do it is because soem marketing in overlap with HTC own brand Dopod especial in some Asia country.
