During today, V2R will release it's latest version of Caller2Picture as version 2.0. While the version 1 assigned pictures of the caller to the notification bubble, version 2 gives you the possibility now to add different ring tones for every contact.

Now you can also hear who is calling you which is a great enhancement, specially if you have your Phone Edition Pocket PC in your pocket.

After installation of Caller2Picture you will notice an additional entry in your Contacts pop-up menu called "Assign picture".

By opening this option you start up the configuration menu of Caller2Picture where you can select the photo and ring tone for the dedicated contact.

By default there is no picture assigned nor is thee any special ring tone selected than the default Pocket PC Phone Edition one.

First of all you can assign a picture and a ring tone per number of a contact. This is handy and interesting if you plan to use different pictures or ring tones for business calls or calls from cell phones or home. For sure you can also assign the same settings for all numbers.

Now you can select which ring tone should be used. Here you have two options: using the standard ring tones from the Pocket PC Phone Edition ring tone folder or select any other wav file, doesn't matter if this is stored on the device of an external memory card:

Right after you select the ring tone you can also assign the callers picture. This picture can be stored on the external memory card as well!

Now, Caller2Picture notifies you that the picture and the ring tone are assigned properly and you can save the settings!
That's it, from now the incoming call from this contact name and its phone numbers will ring with its different ringing tone as well as you will get the caller picture in the notification bubble.

Final Conclusion

As much I liked the first version of Caller2Picture, as more I love version 2! With the option to select different ring tones for your contacts, Caller2Picture comes pretty close to today's standard cell phone features like you use to use with the latest Nokia or Sony Ericsson phones. If your Pocket PC Phone Edition is more than a gadget only for you but also your mobile phone, Caller2Picture might be a real must. While the picture assignment is pure fun the different ring tones per contact is an absolute feature enhancement!

Now I just wait for the next feature upgrade which hopefully includes ring tone assignment per contacts category! If this is finally included also, Microsoft should think about licensing Caller2Picture to become a standard feature for all Pocket PC Phone Editions. ;-)

The good news for all existing Caller2Picture 1.x owners is that this upgrade will be downloadable free of charge which is pretty generous from V2R. For all new customers, Caller2Picture will be available for US$ 14.95 from PocketGear. To upgrade your version 1 to version 2 just download the trial version and install it over your existing version!

For me, Caller2Picture in its version 2 is even more essential than before and it works on all Pocket PC Phone Edition devices!

Cheers ~ Arne
