According to Microsoft Germany, about 15 percent of the world's population are left handed but so far, this group was largely excluded from the smartphone boom due to their innate "talent" to often have difficulties with the operation of the devices. The awkward handling of right-handed devices often leads to tendonitis and cartilage damage in their hands. However, Microsoft has realized the problem and announced today to release a Windows Mobile 7.6. Lefty update which resolves these deficits. Tile arrangement and scrolling were perfectly adapted to the "strong" thumb.
Even with the typeface Microsoft is taking a bold step. The metro-style distinctive typography appears first time left-handed and follows the natural reading direction from left-handers.
"Windows Mobile 7.6 is the world's only operating system that was developed specifically for left-handers. We should double our market share with the left, "explains Microsoft Germany's communications director Thomas Mickeleit. He continued that the next step in ethno spartphones will be an accent version of Windows Phone which will start with a Bavarian edition first. "Next, we plan a customized version for people who are often misunderstood on the phone because of their Bavarian accent. Nokia will support the project by releasing a blue-white (white-blue for sure, for my Bavarian readers) Lumia special edition which is even planned to come with a pre-installed beer app".
Microsoft Germany said that the new Windows Mobile 7.6 Lefty update will be rolled-out to all devices from 13 August, the official left-handed-day.
