Group today announced its range of Christmas 2007 consumer handsets offering the
widest choice of exclusive and Vodafone branded handsets ever. The line-up
includes the latest premium models from leading handset suppliers, a range of
open system devices enabling easy downloads and a compelling set of Vodafone
Furthermore, Vodafone said that a "broad range of open system devices customized
for Vodafone will deliver excellent browsing, Internet services and message
support, including two new Microsoft Windows Mobile handsets".
Well, it's not yet clear if Vodafone is referring to the already announced
but so far unreleased
LG KS20 and
VPA compact V or if the carrier will release additional models. However,
there are real chances we might see a new Windows Mobile-powered Palm smartphone
announced this Wednesday, which - if Windows Mobile-based - might be
released by Vodafone this year.
In the Palm blog, Stephanie Richardson
recently posted an entry which said "It's a Bird, It's a Plane, It's not
Centro. There's been a lot of buzz about the new device our friends across the
"pond" are planning to announce on September 12th... and it's not the Palm
You remember, we all have seen a
leaked photo of a Vodafone branded Palm Centro look-alike Windows Mobile 6
Standard powered smartphone before and maybe that - together with another yet
unknown device - are the two Windows Mobile smartphones Vodafone Global is
In my humble opinion it would makes perfectly sense because other phone
models were mentioned with its brand and device name, just the two Windows
Mobile devices weren't mentioned with its name which sounds to me that Vodafone
is talking about so far unannounced and maybe even unknown devices.
UPDATE: Looks like Vodafone isn't talking about the rumored Palm
device but is referring to the
Samsung SGH-i640V and the
Vodafone 920 (which was even not mentioned in the press release but only
appears in the photo archive) Windows Mobile Standard smartphones. Click the
links above for more information (and photos) about both devices.
