RUMOR: DOPOD/HTC to launch 6 new Windows Mobile devices in 2H 2007

According to a report from DigiTimes, Dopod is expected to release 6 new (most likely) Windows Mobile smartphones in second half of 2007.
While the devices are told to be launched in China, it can be expected that HTC is going to release the same devices under its own HTC brand worldwide as well, as well as it can be expected, that some of the devices will be available from carriers.
Most interesting here is the fact, that DigiTimes got the code names of the expected devices which are:

  • Athena-c
  • Cruiser
  • Kunlun
  • Nike-c
  • Elf
  • Sedna-c

The "-c" could be an indication for the Chinese Dopod version (and according to DigiTime sources, the 6 new devices will be sold under the Dopod brand, even if it was announced earlier to give up the Dopod brand in favor of a worldwide HTC brand) - however even more interesting is the fact, that there are some code names listed, we haven't heard about. While Athena, Cruiser and Elf are well known (Athena and Cruiser are on sale from HTC as well as carriers already, while the Elf is expected to be announced officially tomorrow), "Kunlun" and "Sedna" are brand new while "Nike" was rumored only so far (it's expected to be a Windows Mobile Professional slider smartphone).

No further information given yet but we might here more tomorrow, when Asians number 1 IT show, the Computex, starts in Taipei (Taiwan).

Cheers ~ Arne
