So far, i-mate was selling HTC based Windows Mobile devices only but this possibly ends now, with a so far - by i-mate itself - not announced device called i-mate JAQ.
While the i-mate JAQ looks at the first sight like a redesigned HTC Excalibur, on the second sight it becomes clear, that it isn't a Windows Mobile powered Smartphone but Pocket PC Phone Edition.
According to Hungarian online shop "PDAMania" the device is sporting a 2.8" QVGA touch screen, QWERTY keyboard, is powered by Microsoft Windows Mobile 5.0 and a TI OMAP 850 CPU with 200 MHz, has inbuilt 64 MB RAM and 128 MB ROM and features a mini SD card slot.
The i-mate JAQ is announced to support GSM/GPRS/EDGE 850/900/1800/1900 MHz and Bluetooth 1.2. The camera should be a 1.3 megapixel camera only:
Well, even if the specs are a little bit different (like screen size, W-LAN support and the missing GPS option), it seems that the device is based on Inventec's Mercury reference design, which got the FCC approval some time ago.
No further information given yet, neither from PDAMania nor from i-mate.
Cheers ~ Arne
