RUMOR: LG Electronics develops high-resolution Smartphone based on Windows CE

Hmmm weird... Maybe my previous thoughts about LG as a new Smartphone vendor wasn't that wrong at all?
Yahoo Singapore is reporting that LG Electronics is entering the Smartphone market with a Windows CE OS but according to the article it's not clear if it will be a Pocket PC Phone Edition, a Smartphone or something propriety as it is talking about "Microsoft's operating system for handheld computers":

LG Electronics Inc., South Korea's second-largest handset maker, said today it had developed a high-end mobile phone, also known as a smartphone, equipped with a 1.1 mega pixel digital camera.
In a brief statement, LG Electronics said the phone, priced at some 800,000 won (US$694.40) would be available in stores by the end of this year.

The device has a total of 192 MB memory and uses Microsoft's operating system for handheld computers.

The launch of the high-resolution smartphone is aimed at competing with Samsung Electronics, which introduced a similar model last July.

The sleek handset also offers a camcorder-like feature that allows users to record moving images for an hour, the company said.

On the other hand, if it is a "sleek handset" it can't be a Pocket PC Phone Edition at all. It still looks like a thrilling fall with many Smartphones to be eleased.

Cheers ~ Arne

Ok, it 13:24 CET now... Where is the smartphone? Is it a fake?

Na, but you have to consider that MS is based on the Westcoast, so if it is a joint launch we might have to wait till they wake up.

Are we talking about this one ? http://www.lg019.co.kr/docs...

or rather something like this

@APA: Fixed the links, it's the "_" within links which are handled wrong.

Regarding the two devices - I don't think that that's the devices Yahoo! was talking about. Also if I check the specs - sorry my Korean is a little bit rusty ;-) - LG talks about Windows CE 4.1...?

I still expect something more Smartphone rather then Pocket PC...

Posted by Arne Hess on 08.10.03 - 16:47:59

@fusION: Pardon but what are you talking about? The Smart Amazing Phone comes from HTC, not from LG and it isn't specially made for Smart as you can buy it even here on PPCW.Net (http://www.theunwired.net/shop/im...).

So don't see what you mean?

Hey, the teaser image above is just a teaser image for Smartphone related news - it's not device specific - a teaser... a synonym... It shouldn't show the LG Smartphone device this thread is about...

Arnes Hess, check out the site first so u will know. as iv said, it was specialy made for smart communication philippines as iv read in the kit. i just forgot the company who made it. it runs on windows. u can even upgrade its software at http://www.smart.com.ph . it hangs though but its a good phone. iv been using it for about 3 months already. i got it for free at post paid plan (Philippine Peso) 1,335 (55 pesos = 1 US$)

Sorry Frank but I'm completely lost now what you and fusION are talking about :?::?::?:

This thread is about a mysterious LG Smartphone, not about the well known and old HTC Tanager which is sold by Smart as Smart Amazing Phone...

Q: How many people you know in this world or any other world for that matter, that can currently find a "Smart Phone" with 192 MB of memory?

A: NONE?

IT IS A PPC MOBILE EDITITON!!!!!!!

Posted by Arne Hess on 08.10.03 - 22:30:11

@OTG: Sorry but adding 192 MB RAM to Smartphone isn't that big deal.

However, even PPCs have a max of 128 today but here the sky is the limit, not the device.

BTW: Already got it confirmed from a trusted source that it is a Smartphone, not a Pocket PC!

@Frank and fusION: I'm not sure if you've essn the real old articles of PPCW.Net on the SMART Amazing Phone which PPCW.Net was the first to release exclusive photos of way back in February...

http://217.160.215.102/inde...

The icon above is a simple way of saying that it's Smartphone related.

Don't take it literally that the icon represents the rumored phone.

BTW, the SMART Amazing Phone is not exclusively made for SMART... The real name of the smartphone is Tanager made by HTC.  It's the same phone marketed as the Qtek 7070, PPCW.Net i-Mate, SPVe100 etc...

I think you lost Arne in the conversation :-)

Mabuhay! ~ Carlo
