Last week, I've attend an interesting Webcast about a new service for Windows Mobile smartphones, which is introduced today. As we live our lives, the mobile phone is something that goes with us everywhere. It's constantly recording our daily life and the memories that are important through text messages, contacts, calls, photos and videos. Unfortunately, much of this footage is lost forever because it's entirely too difficult for users to figure out how to access and share it with others. Dashwire changes this by automatically mirroring the content on your phone to the Web (think of a consumer focused and smarter ActiveSync which lets you synchronizing more than just the PIM data of Outlook).

Dashwire is making it significantly easier to manage, enhance and share your mobile experiences over the air. It's simple to use and within minutes of signing up, you will be able to experience your mobile world in an amazing new way. With Dashwire's free service, your data is securely backed-up and easy to search, interact with, and share using the power and familiarity of your computer.

Central to the Dashwire experience is the seamless exchange of data between your mobile phone and Web-based account. Your phone content including contacts, text messages, calls, photos, videos, speed dials, Internet favorites, and ringtones seamlessly uploads from your phone and is safely stored online in your Dashwire account. This information can be accessed, controlled and even changed from a central location, the Internet - offering numerous features to help you get the most out of your mobile phone.

Contacts - Your entire phone address book is automatically uploaded and backed-up online. The Dashwire dashboard provides a quick view of the contacts you communicate with the most, while the expanded view shows contact cards in a more easily searchable format. Contacts can be added, edited, or deleted - with all changes instantly updated on your phone and dashboard. You can view all SMS and call communications with a contact directly from the contact card or choose to initiate a new conversation through SMS or E-Mail:

  • Instant two-way synchronization between the phone and the Web for new, edited, or deleted contacts
  • Single click to SMS or E-Mail from contact details
  • Ability to assign photos captured and uploaded from your phone to a user’s contact details
  • Single view of all messages and calls associated with each contact
  • Quick filter by contact tags
  • Multiple keyword search across all data in the contact
  • fields

Text Messaging (SMS) - Dashwire offers the easiest and fastest way to manage your text messages (SMS) when in front of your computer. All text messages from your phone - both sent and received - are backed-up and easily accessible on the Web. You have quick access to your most recent text messages from the dashboard, as well as your entire messaging history in an easily searchable format. Single-click access enables the user to read, reply, forward, or delete a message directly from the dashboard. When a message is sent from your dashboard, it’s sent directly from the phone - meaning that it appears to the recipient as if it came from the sending party instead of an unknown number:

  • View messages on the dashboard as they arrive on your phone
  • Read, compose, reply, forward - as if from your mobile phone
  • Recipient auto-fill using individual or group contacts
  • Quick filter of messaging history by date, contact, or folder
  • Multiple keyword search
  • Individual or multiple message deletions
  • Single click to access contact details
  • Ability to associate an unknown number to a new contact

Calls - Your entire call history is uploaded and organized by dialed, received, and missed calls. The expanded view enables quick filtering and search, as well as information on individual and cumulative call durations. Contacts can be accessed or called with a single click - assuming a VoIP application is installed on your computer:

  • Multiple keyword search
  • Individual or multiple call deletions
  • Single click to access contact details
  • Ability to associate an unknown number to a new contact
  • Call duration tracking

Photos & Videos - Snap a photo. Capture a video. Relax. Dashwire instantly uploads all of your media to the Web where you can view, edit, organize into albums, and share with friends. The dashboard view shows recent uploads, while the expanded view provides access to all historical media that you’ve captured. From there, Dashwire enables media management capabilities through search, tagging, editing, and sharing across individual or multiple items:

  • Automatic photo and video upload from your phone
  • Complete media organization with a few simple
  • Thumbnail previews and user-controlled resizing
  • Ability to add a title, description, rating, and tag in addition to rotating the thumbnail preview
  • Save to computer or delete from Dashwire account
  • Share through SMS or E-Mail
  • Multiple keyword search
  • Quick filter by albums

Phone Settings - Who wants to read the owner’s guide? With Dashwire, your ringtones, wallpapers, speed dials, and Internet favorites can be easily set from your dashboard and instantly updated on your phone - all with just
a few mouse clicks:

  • Add Internet favorites from a list of top mobile optimized sites
  • Ability to set custom URLs as Internet favorites
  • Preview and set the ringtones and wallpapers that ship with your phone
  • Add or remove speed dials - auto-filled from contacts
  • Coming soon: automatically transfer your settings to your new phone

Shared Pages - Dashwire users have the option to create a customized page in order to share all of the cool mobile experiences that were previously trapped on their phones. Shared pages currently can include photos, videos, and friends. What you see as well as whom has access is customized and controlled by you:

  • Privacy settings limiting site access to no one, friends only, or anyone
  • Quick page filter by photos or videos
  • Navigation thumbnails on the right side to quickly access specific friends, photos, videos, or comments
  • Individual photo and video views, with the option to rate and comment on each item
  • Ability to customize the background image as well as the arrangement of published items
  • Search functionality to quickly find interesting people and published content from shared user pages

Dashwire launches today and will be initially available for Windows Mobile 5.0 and 6 smartphones with support for Symbian S60 devices following soon. It requires a small sync-client on the phone which can be downloaded over the air from Dashwire and after installation, the service is ready to use.
Available in English only at the moment, the service works worldwide and for end-users, it will be and stay free of charge.

Cheers ~ Arne
