Google has announced to bring Google+ Hangout beyond simple "status updates", but connecting with the people users care about using the service's multi-person video. Therefore, the company has started to roll-out a number of improvements. Soon it will be possible to upgrade any conversation from long-form to live where certain posts act as kindling for face-to-face interaction by making it easy to start a hangout from any post on Google+. It's initiated by just clicking "Hangout" underneath a post that a user is passionate about and Google adds the invitation to the comments. If others are hanging out already, users will see their invitation in the comments as well.

However, the desire to "go live" isn't limited to desktop computers, of course, Google is also bringing hangouts to Google+ Messenger on mobile devices. The new Google+ app will be available in Android Market within a few days and it's also coming soon to the App Store.

Broadcast and record what matters most The Black Eyed Peas, the Dalai Lama and even the Muppets (see video bellow and watch till the end ;-) have all used Hangouts On Air to share their performances and peace talks with the world.

On Air is still under active development, but from today Google is doing three things to get it closer to general availability:

  • They are turning it on for hundreds more public figures, celebrities and other Google+ users with large followings
  • Google is making Hangouts On Air completely self-service, so users can broadcast whenever they are in the mood
  • Google is going to integrate it with YouTube, so once a user is off the air, Google will upload a full-length (and private) recording to the user's account

Hangouts On Air is now being rolled-out, just look for the new "broadcast and record" option after starting a hangout. If you don't see it yet, Google is working hard to give everyone the chance to go On Air.

Last but not least Google has introduced Dial-in Hangouts. Because not everyone has a webcam or a front-facing mobile camera (yet), but most likely a telephone, Google makes it possible now to dial-in anyone, from almost any country, directly into a hangout. Calls to the U.S. and Canada are free while international calling rates are super low. Dial-in hangout participants from almost anywhere Never miss a chance to connect

Cheers ~ Arne
