Limousine services are quite common in other countries, for instance I'm rarely taking a cab in the U.S. or a taxi in the U.K. but most times I'm there, I'm picked-up by some private limousine services. Not so in Germany (or other European countries) where limousine service are rare or often misunderstood to be something exclusive for the rich and famous. Nevertheless, German rental car service Sixt has launched earlier this year a service called "myDriver". MyDriver is said to be an affordable, premium limousine service that offers a reliable and comfortable alternative to a taxi. Already available in Berlin, Munich, Frankfurt, Cologne and other German cities, as well as in Zurich, Vienna and Paris, myDriver allows to be driven to the destination of choice at a guaranteed fixed price.
So far, there was no Android app available but myDriver has finally released the missing Android app - in addition to the previously released iOS app. While myDriver isn't as flexible as a Taxi it even allows to book a car, for instance to or from the airport, when already in the middle of a trip.
The myDriver fleet consists primarily vehicles from German premium manufacturers such as BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Audi and the app allows to register to myDriver straight from the app, reserve a driver with just a few clicks, select among economy, business and first class fares, or allows to choose a business van for groups of 5-7 people. MyDriver is directly paid by credit card and the app allows to view your bookings, cancel for free up until 1 hour before the trip and view name and telephone number of the driver before the ride.
