Everybody - hopefully - loves the Slingbox and everybody - hopefully - loves Windows RT and the RT powered Microsoft Surface but how do both play together well? While Sling Media offers a couple of pretty good clients for different platforms, namely Windows, MacOS, Android, iOS and Windows Phone, there's yet no client available for Windows RT. And while Windows RT comes with Microsoft's Internet Explorer 10, Sling Media's web player is also not an option because it requires an ActiveX plug-in which can't be installed on ARM powered Windows RT devices. The only chance is to access your compatible Slingbox through Facebook but who wants to watch TV via Facebook?

Thankfully there's even another alternative Sling Media offers - it's Flash based SlingPlayer for web which also works fine with Windows RT's Internet Explorer 10. Nevertheless, Sling Media isn't offering the Flash player as a stand-alone solution but offers it for embedding it into web sites. And here we go with the::unwired's SlingPlayer RT, created to be used with Microsoft Surface RT tablets and Windows RT in general.

the::unwired's SlingPlayer RT is a sleek no-frill stand-alone page which is designed to provide easy and convenient access to compatible Slingboxes. It's compatible with and optimized for Windows 8 and Windows RT and gives Slingbox users an easy way to place-shift TV. The Flash player plug-in itself is developed and provided by Sling Media, and therefore no Slingbox data is shared with the::unwired.

Since the::unwired and the hosting space is financed by ads, the::unwired's SlingPlayer RT is also containing some banners. However, since nobody really likes it to be bothered by ads and we see enough of them on TV already, you can hide them whenever you want, with a simple tap, and they won't come back during the current session - promised!

After login to your Slingbox account (you have to create one first to use the SlingPlayer RT web page), you have full access to all of its supported features. For sure you can also watch your favorite TV show full screen - the upstream and downstream bandwidth is the only limit.

Unfortunately, Sling Media's Flash player isn't supporting all of the company's ever launched Slingboxes due to technical reasons and therefore the::unwired's SlingPlayer RT is also only supporting the Slingbox Solo, the Slingbox Pro-HD as well as the brand new Slingbox 350 and Slingbox 500. But if you have one of these Slingboxes and a Windows RT powered tablet, you can now place-shift your favorite TV program again.

As said before, the::unwired's SlingPlayer RT is fully Internet Explorer 10 and Windows 8/Windows RT compatible and therefore you can even pin the page to your Start desktop. But for sure it's also working on Windows 8, Windows 7 and Windows Vista.

Happy place-shifting and cheers ~ Arne
