While today's issued press release isn't unveiling anything except that it suggests that HTC is now out of Apple's line of fire, HTC and Apple said they have reached a global settlement that includes the dismissal of all current lawsuits and a ten-year license agreement. The license extends to current and future patents held by both parties. The terms of the settlement are confidential. Therefore nobody knows what HTC has paid Apple or which patents might be shared.
In the press release, Peter Chou, CEO of HTC is quoted with "HTC is pleased to have resolved its dispute with Apple, so HTC can focus on innovation instead of litigation." and Tim Cook, CEO of Apple said "We are glad to have reached a settlement with HTC. We will continue to stay laser focused on product innovation."
That's all both companies had to say about the deal, giving HTC the silence it needs to concentrate to make its products a success again and Apple to room to concentrate on other lawsuits which might be bad for Samsung, Motorola and/or Google.
Cheers ~ Arne
