On this year's Mobile World Congress, PacketVideo has demonstrated its new pocketable mobile broadcast receiver which is said to turn any WiFi-enabled phone and PMP into a mobile TV. The mobile broadcast receiver receives and decodes an available digital TV signal and sending the decoded stream via WiFi to a playback device. The receiver uses specific, patented protocols to ensure optimum rendering of the TV signal on the playback device and is said to even provide secure access to premium channels. PacketVideo plans to support a wide range of TV standards, including TDtv, DVB-H and MediaFLO as well as for WiMAX (but not DVB-T?).

According to PacketVideo, its mobile broadcast receiver is compatible with many industry-leading phones including the Nokia N-series, Apple iPhone and HTC Windows Mobile smartphone devices and features a rechargeable lithium-ion battery.
It will be available later this year, a price wasn't given yet.

In the meantime, you might enjoy your Slingbox or WebGuide for Windows Media Center to stay entertained.

Cheers ~ Arne
