Sony Ericsson just released an update of it's Xperia X1 white paper and unveils some interesting facts. For instance, Sony Ericsson will release two different Xperia X1 version, the X1a and the X1i which both features quadband GSM/GPRS/EDGE but differentiates in supported UMTS/HSDPA/HSUPA bands. The X1a is going to support triband UMTS/HSDPA/HSUPA at 850/1900/2100 MHz while the X1i is going to support UMTS/HSDPA/HSUPA at 900/1900/2100 MHz. However, both versions will feature HSDPA downloads up to 7.2 Mbps and and HSUPA uploads up to 2.0 Mbps. Nevertheless, another major difference is the video recording resolution.

While the Xperia X1a will record videos in QVGA with 24 fps only, the Xperia X1i is recoding videos in VGA with 30 fps and this is because Qualcomm's patent dispute with Broadcomm which forbids Qualcomm to offer devices in the U.S. with VGA video recording capabilities. This means that the X1a will be Sony Ericsson's North American Xperia version while the X1i is expected to be released in the rest of the world.

Other Sony Ericsson Xperia X1 features:

  • Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional
  • Quadband GSM/GPRS/EDGE (850/900/1800/1900 MHz)
