According to a statement of Sling Media CEO Blake Krikorian at the Web 2.0 conference, the company behind the Slingbox has done some European deals to show place-shifted TV on mobiles here but has also tied up with a big mobile carrier in the U.S. which will be announced soon.
No further information were given yet but the U.S. carrier might be one of the few which is carrying Windows Mobile devices already (Cingular or T-Mobile are rumored here) since the required Slingplayer is available for Windows Mobile Pocket PCs and Smartphones already.

For me as a European it's also interesting, that Sling Media might cooperate with European mobile operators soon as well. At the moment, Sling Media is operating in the UK as well as in Scandinavia through a partnership with Viasat. If you break it down now, Sling Media needs a carrier which is offering both, cellular as well as DSL, otherwise it wouldn't makes too much sense for the carrier. This brings me to Vodafone, which started to acquire DSL operators, O2, which recently started its DSL business in Germany (thanks to Telefonica), Orange, which also acquired DSL operations in the UK and which owns DSL in France already and for sure Deutsche Telekom which owns T-Mobile and T-Online.

Vodafone Germany has archived some experiences in place-shift services already, since Vodafone D2 cooperates with Orb since this summer and both companies are offering "Vodafone-Mein PC" which gives Vodafone Live! customers a flat fee access to their home media PCs, including place-shift TV, audio and video streaming and more.

Cheers ~ Arne
