While Sony Ericsson's Xperia X10 has yet to be released (a worldwide launch is expected for anytime April), it's clear that Sony Ericsson's first Android smartphone will hit the market with the pretty much outdated Android 1.6 OS version. However, following Sony Ericsson's earlier information how the Xperia X2 Windows phone is planned to be updated, Sony Ericsson has now given further details about possible Xperia X10 updates and upgrades. In its corporate blog, Sony Ericsson explains why it has chosen Android 1.6 over 2.x but also confirms that "there will be a software update for Xperia X10 that will upgrade the complete Sony Ericsson User Experience Platform based on newer version of the Android OS".
While the postings rants pretty much about Sony Ericsson's take on its own user interface and services, Sony Ericsson hasn't confirmed yet to which Android version it might upgrade the Xperia X10 at a later point. The headline says that the "Xperia X10 will be upgradeable" and Android 2.1 is mentioned in posting, however -while expectable and most likely - it's not yet confirmed that Sony Ericsson will upgrade the Xperia X10 to Android 2.1 (or anything better).
