STREAMING: Broadcast Video from your Windows Mobile device with ComVu's Pocket Caster [UPDATE]

I just came across a service called ComVu which was posted about at MoDaCo and while it's not that new anymore, it looks interesting. Especially now where we have some UMTS/3G flat fees here which you need to make it fully usable!.
ComVu is a so far - free service which includes a client for Windows Mobile devices (which is only around 450 Kb) to broadcast live audio and video from your Pocket PC (and even Smartphone, according the support page) to the Internet!. The broadcasts can then be either watched live and in real-time at the web or later from the archive.

This gives some complete new scenarios to use a Windows Mobile device for and I have some in mind already I will test later. However, the first public test I will do later today when I join the Munich Windows Mobile User Group meeting. So stay tuned and check out my live stream from there at 7 PM CET. Streamed from my HTC Universal, using the E-Plus' UMTS network.

If the plug-in above isn't working, click here.

For now, I will broadcast a test stream from my living room window (not much too see yet but the sky of Munich only). Please let me know in the comments how and if it is working for you.

UPDATE: If you've missed my live-ride to the User Group meeting, you can watch the recording here now and keep in mind, it was streamed via UMTS with 80 Kbit/s! Pretty impressive expect the fact that everything is mirrored. In Munich we drive on the right side, not left! ;-)

Cheers ~ Arne

Wow great it's working! What about movie-broadcasting, a new way to pirate movies?
Can i order Ice Age 2?

Now that is sweet!

Arne, why not do a live broadcast from the next 3GSM or CeBit? wink
It would really be revolutionizing... I think... big_smile

Hmmm... I hadn't had cinema piratery in mind but event broadcasting like fairs as Filip mentioned or sport events (hey, who is going to stream the FIFA Worldcup this year? wink) or concerts. Imagine you was part of the Stones party in Rio earlier this year (or was it late last year) and you broadcast this event. Wouldn't it be cool? big_smile

Gotcha, you got it! Exactly one of my ideas! big_smile All it needs is either a flat UMTS connection or at least a day-time W-LAN voucher.

And you are not alone! Podcasting was yesterday, broadcasting is tomorrow! wink

now that's cool and the video quality is impressive! thought umts is weaker but doing such constant upstreams is cool. hadn't had spotted this service neither so far but will give it definitely a try too. Any information about pricing if it becomes commercial?

I haven't found any pricings yet, other that it "should costs a tape for your camcorder", whatever it means. Also I have read something about basic free service but no further information available yet.
