Mediasync for Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 is a plug-in to transfer several media types to your portable device and is currently in development by mcesoft. Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition does have built-in support for synchronizing your media files with a portable device, but the downfall here is that only the newer devices are supported. A lot of people have probably hooked up their Pocket PC to their Media Center only to discover Media Center advising to synchronize the device using the Windows Media Player instead.
As with all other plug-ins by mcesoft, the plug-in will be available in several languages. At the current time the plug-in is in Private Beta to do the initial testing of the functionality for transferring music to a portable device. During the Private Beta period some languages will be added and we hope to receive more languages when the Public Beta starts. There is also the possibility to change the background image so you can give a personal touch to the plug-in. Three images are included, and you can off course add your own images.
Mediasync will basically support all Portable Media Center functions including:
- Of course you can synchronies your music files. Mediasync will automatically read the user configured playlists and you can easily navigate with your remote to select the playlist(s) you want on your portable device. And it doesn't just copy the songs in the selected playlist(s) it will also create the appropriate playlist on your device so you can just select it and start playback right away
- In addition Mediasync will also support pictures and photos.
- For sure also recorded TV and videos will be supported. The recorded TV shows and video files will off course have to be in the correct format (WMV), something that can easily be done with dCut or dvr2wmv.
At this moment Mediasync only supports Windows Mobile Pocket PC's but its intended to have it support more devices. For the Pocket PC's Mediasync uses ActiveSync so this has to be installed for the plug-in to work. Mediasync is tested with ActiveSync version 3.7 and 3.8. There will also be the opportunity to have the music files saved in folders based on the 'artist' and 'album' tag, so if a song is in multiple playlists the song just has to be copied once to your device to save disk space. You will also have the opportunity to see what media you have on your device and to delete media you no longer want on it, for music this will be done by simply selecting the playlist and clicking the delete button.
Mediasync isn't released yet no a release date was given but it's already in a closed user group Beta and will be released via mcesoft.nl (see link bellow) as freeware (but as always, the developers accept donations via PayPal) later. As soon as it is released, I will let you know here.
Cheers ~ Arne
