THOUGHT: Broadcast your personal Media to Windows Mobile and Notebooks in parallel

If you are a regular reader of the::unwired, you know that one of my favorite usage scenarios is place shifting my media - either to my Windows Mobile devices, if I'm commuting, or to my Notebook, if I'm stationary but away from home.
Well, yesterday I've watched with my girlfriend a TV recording which we streamed to a Notebook from my Windows Vista Media Center at home, using WebGuide4 (see my previous WebGuide4 with Windows Mobile review here). Since it got later and we had an appointment later the day, I wanted to take a bath without interrupting the strea, especially because my girlfriend wanted to finish watching the recording and also I didn't want to stop watching.

So I took my Samsung i600 Windows Mobile Smartphone, logged in to my Media Center/WebGuide4 from the Smartphone as well, clicked on "Now Playing" and hooked to the stream which I've watched on the Notebook before:

That's pretty cool and I saw exactly the same stream (a little bit time delayed but 2 seconds only), my girlfriend got on the Notebook; even across different access networks. I've used HSDPA for the stream while my girlfriend used W-LAN/DSL for watching the stream.

That's definitely a pretty innovative way to share your streams within your home. Let's say you are watching a video but have to leave because you have to go out with the dog - then you can simply pick-up your mobile device and continue watching the movie while walking around the block with the dog.

Please note, unlike Orb's MyCast, which works stand-alone, you need either Windows XP Media Center or Windows Vista Media Center to use WebGuide4. But if you have Windows Media Center on your PC, WebGuide4 is a great enhancement to unwire your media, across your home and abroad.

Cheers ~ Arne
