THOUGHT: If WMDC asks for an upgrade to AS 4.x or how the WMDC continues to fail

Something seems to be weird with Microsoft's Windows Mobile Device Center for Windows Vista. Yesterday, after I've finally updated the ROM of my Xda trion (but not via Windows Vista but via Windows XP), I had to install my most important applications again and one of them is - for sure - the SlingPlayer Mobile.
However, during the installation I got an error I haven't seen so far with any applications I've installed via the Vista Windows Mobile Device Center: ActiveSync 6.0 (which is the internal name of Windows Mobile Device Center) asked me to "upgrade" to ActiveSync 4.1:

Hello? An "upgrade" from 6 to 4 cannot be and upgrade but is a downgrade and no, I cannot install ActiveSync 4.x on Windows Vista PCs but have to live with ActiveSync 6.x aka the Windows Mobile Device Center.
Either Slingmedia's installer screwed up or the Windows Mobile Device Center again.

The more I use Windows Vista with my Windows Mobile devices, the less I like it. Everything which isn't standard today (let's says basic sync) seems to fail - like ROM updates and now even application installations (while it seems that the SlingPlayer Mobile failed in this case but anyway, the Windows Mobile Device Center should offers a better backward compatibility anyway).

I definitely hope Microsoft comes around the corner with a solution (aka an update of Windows Mobile Device Center 6.0) soon. Also I suggest that developers should review their current applications if they really work with Windows Vista. If you need help, please let me know.

Anyway, in this case, Slingmedia thankfully offered a cab file as well, which I was able to install from the device itself.

Cheers ~ Arne
