While Telefónica O2 Germany announced the fastest German LTE-A cell yesterday, Vodafone Germany went a step further by also announcing its LTE-Advanced trial in Dresden. However, unlike O2 Germany, which is only covering its own office building in Munich, Vodafone Germany said it's covering the whole area around the Technische Universität Dresden (University of Technology), where Vodafone operates a professorship for mobile communication. Like O2 in Munich and EE in London, Vodafone is partnering in Dresden with Huawei which delivered the technology and like the other two carriers, Vodafone is using carrier aggregation on the LTE 800 MHz and LTE 2600 MHz bands which are bundled to archive 225 Mbps.
Vodafone has yet not given an outlook when LTE-A with Cat 6 might be commercially launched but since Huawei said in London as well as in Munich that the required terminals are yet not available but expected to be launched anytime in 2014, it can be expected that it also takes a little it longer for Vodafone to commercialize it.
