Yesterday, Google rolled-out Google Play Newsstand, a new app which combines and replaces Google Play Magazines and Google Play Currents in one Android app. With Google Play Newsstand, users can discover more of the news and magazines they care about - all in one app for Android tablet or phone. It displays breaking news and in-depth articles featuring audio, video and more. From sports, business, cooking, entertainment, fashion and more - Google Play Newsstand offers both, free and paid news plus subscribe to vibrant full HD magazines, all in one place. With hundreds of premier publishers - it's all there, easy to follow, read, and share. In addition, it allows to add own own news channels, for instance from RSS feeds or Google Play Currents.
Furthermore, Google Play Newsstand offers an offline mode which allows to read any news edition, topic or magazine without missing a page. Bookmarking a news story allows to read it later.
If you used Google Play Currents or Google Play Magazines, all your subscriptions and channels were automatically transferred to Google Play Newsstand; which is the new home for the former services. However, now with one app and one tap, it's never been easier to stay informed on the news of the day.
As before, international non-U.S. customers are out of luck to subscribe for any magazines but Google is reporting that the content isn't available in the certain country. Nevertheless, all the previous Google Play Currents channels are still working in Google Play Newsstand, all across the globe and with the launch of Google Play Newsstand the::unwired's previous Google Play Current channel was re-launched which is even better now. It provides full, add free, articles - not just snippets. So don't forget to subscribe to the::unwired's Newsstand channel to stay informed with the latest Android and Windows Phone developments.
Cheers ~ Arne
