UNVEILED: First Windows Phone 7 Series Smartphone shows its face - it's an LG Slider

During yesterday's Engadget Show, Aaron Woodman, director of the Mobile Communications Business and Consumer Experiences Product Management team at Microsoft, pulled off a surprise: He shortly demonstrated the - most likely - first real Windows Phone 7 Series smartphone, a prototype which comes from LG! So far, for instance at the recent Mobile World Congress, Microsoft only showed specially developed and designed demo hardware. But LG's Windows Phone 7 Series smartphone is real and will most likely hit the market later this Fall -  if everything goes well as the first Windows Phone 7 device.

According to Engadget, the device is just a little bit thicker than an iPhone or Nexus One and it features - as previously mentioned - dedicated hardware buttons for the camera, volume up/down and power on/off in addition to the Windows Phone 7 Series required Start, back and search keys. Furthermore it was noticed that the device sports a five megapixel main camera with supporting LED flash as well as a 3.5 mm stereo headset jack. The 4-rows thumb-keyboard seems to not feature a semi-sliding mechanism but seems to be similar to the Motorola's Milestone keyboard.

Anyway, since this - yet unnamed - Windows Phone 7 Series smartphone is an LG device but Woodman represented Microsoft in the Engadget Show, no further announcements were made. Nevertheless, the video is quite interesting in terms of Windows Phone 7 Series in general and just in case you didn't knew so far, Woodman made clear that "a mobile phone isn't a PC" (which makes sense since Microsoft's Pocket PC Phone Edition smartphones aren't called Pocket PC Phone Edition anymore ;-).

Cheers ~ Arne

As ugly as an airport. I think you summarized it quite well with your tweet: Windows Phone 7 hardware also need a restart. I count in HTC!
