GCF (Global Certification Forum) just approved and unveiled a so far unannounced
HTC (Windows Mobile) smartphone, the XV6175. According to the GCF, the XV6175
supports quadband GSM at 850, 900, 1800 and 1900 MHz but not WCDMA (UMTS/HSPA).
What's somewhat irritating here is the fact that typically, XV is sued for
Verizon Wireless smartphones however Verizon Wireless is running a CDMA network
in the U.S., not a GSM network. However, this might prove earlier rumors that
HTC is working on a world-phone which also supports GSM in addition to CDMA.
Further information aren't available at this time, it's even unknown which
operating system the XV6175 runs but it's most likely Windows Mobile, I don't
expect Verizon Wireless' first Android smartphone will be a GSM world-phone at all.
Cheers ~ Arne
