UNVEILED: O2 Germany's next Xda Windows Mobile Smartphone is the Xda diamond

While we are still waiting for the official HTC Diamond announcement (most likely we will hear more on May 6), T-Mobile previewed its version of the HTC Diamond, aka the MDA compact IV, during last month's CeBIT in Hanover already. And now O2 Germany followed with a pre-announcement that its next Xda Windows Mobile smartphone will be called "O2 Xda diamond".
So far, O2 only unveiled that its Xda diamond will be black and featuring a big touchscreen as well as HSDPA and GPS. But if it is based on the HTC Diamond, which T-Mobile's MDA compact IV is also expected to be based on, it's somewhat confirmed, that the Xda diamond will also features a 3 megapixel autofocus camera, 4 GB internal memory, a VGA touchscreen and Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional.

Other expected features are quadband GSM/GPRS/EDGE, triband UMTS/HSDPA up to 7.2 Mbps, Bluetooth 2.0+EDR and WiFi b/g:

While O2 hasn't given a price indication yet, it was mentioned that a release can be expected for June 2008.

Cheers ~ Arne

I am not sure if it is a Winmo Phone.
First off it doesnt have a windows logo on th bottom buttons.
second , The buttons look exactly like the Android emulator design.

Has anyone seen it running windows mobile ?

Yes, it's said to be Windows Mobile, not Android...
And forget the buttons. Microsoft is using this layout (Home and Back buttons) since it introduced the non-touchscreen Standard Smartphones in 2002, long time before Google formed Android.
Not sure why HTC is using this button layout for Professional (Pocket PC) devices but well, I hope we will hear more next month.
Anyway, the Xda diamond is announced to be released in June, Android will not hit the market before Q4-08.

Arne, any information if T-Mobile or O2 will carry the Diamond in the UK also?

Posted by Arne Hess on 28.04.08 - 08:42:06

There are no info available yet. While it cab be expected, neither T-Mobile UK nor O2 UK have announced anything yet.

¿If O2 takes it, have you heard anything from Telefoníca?

Posted by Arne Hess on 28.04.08 - 13:24:26

No, sorry! No other information yet. Only T-Mobile (DE) and O2 (DE) are kind of confirmed. Have heard rumors of others but that's pure speculation at this point.
