In a recent blog entry about "Instant Notifications" which is about push notifications, Twitter unveiled that it will (finally) bring push notifications to Windows Phone (7) and even Android. As you might remember, even if Windows Phone 7 is featuring live tiles which were built to keep users up-to-date, most Windows Phone 7 applications don't take benefit of Microsoft's new smartphone notification system. Therefore users don't receive notifications about new tweets, mentions and direct messages or new Facebook or VZnet updates. This is because the service has to send update notifications to the device instead of the app on the device which notifies the user about updates by itself.
However, as Twitter has already done with push notifications for the iPhone the company is also "working hard to introduce this feature to Twitter for Android and Twitter for Windows Phone soon".
While Twitter has yet not given a timeframe when Windows Phone 7 users might can expect this feature, let us hope Twitter will enable it soon. Now it's also up to the other social networks to also support Windows Phone 7 push notifications hopefully soon as well.
Cheers ~ Arne
