Yesterday evening, Google announced a new look and feel for its desktop search but this changes also affects Google's mobile search which the company hasn't announced yet. As a matter of fact, Google has completely changed the look and feel on Android smartphones and it seems that Google followed the same design guidelines it announced for the desktop search. With the design changes in the coming weeks and months, Google plans to bringing forward the stuff that matters to you and getting all the other clutter out of your way. Even simple changes, like using bolder colors for actionable buttons or hiding navigation buttons until they're actually needed.
This design change comes just weeks after Google has introduced new ways of searching when it added new shortcuts to commonly searched local categories, like restaurants, coffee shops and bars, in the form of icons on the mobile site.
And that's indeed what Google introduced on its mobile search as well. The static links on the top, which previously showed links to Web, Images, Places, News and More are now interactive buttons which fades and hide away. However, behind these buttons, a new world of search and interaction opens as never seen before on Google search.
According to Google, "the new design will soon allow you to seamlessly transition from one device to another and have a consistent visual experience". Therefore, Google wants to keep the look simple and clean, but behind the seemingly simple design, it is using new technologies like HTML5, WebGL and the latest, fastest browsers to make sure you have all the power of the web behind you.
The new Google mobile search is now available on Android smartphones. Windows Phone 7 is not yet supported due to the lack of HTML5 support which comes with the Windows Phone Mango upgrade later this year.
