HTC
(High Tech Computer) Europe recently released a ROM update for its
HTC P3600 (aka the HTC
Trinity) Windows Mobile Pocket PC Phone Edition which adds the long awaited GPS
functionality to HTC's small UMTS/HSDPA-enabled Pocket PC.
With this ROM update (which is still Windows Mobile 5.0 - it's not an upgrade to
Windows Mobile 6), HTC adds what Vodafone got already for its
VPA compact GPS - the GPS
functionality. Hardware-wise, the Trinity was GPS enabled already but the GPS
receiver wasn't used by the operating system.
Now, with the ROM update, the GPS receiver capability is enabled as well as
HTC has added further improvements like browser enhancements, Bluetooth
improvements and new data network icons to differentiate between GPRS, EDGE,
UMTS and HSDPA connections.
The ROM update is available from HTC Europe's support site. The free download
requires the device IMEI number.
