UPDATE: iPAQ Pocket PC Wireless Pack for GSM/GPRS Networks update available

On January 17th January, HP released a new SoftPaq which contains a software and firmware update for the iPAQ Pocket PC Wireless Pack for GSM/GPRS Networks for the following iPAQ models:

iPAQ H3900 Series Pocket PC H3955, H3950, H3975, H3970
iPAQ H3800 Series Pocket PC H3815, H3835, H3830, H3845, H3850, H3870, H3875
iPAQ H3700 Series Pocket PC H3730, H3760, H3765
iPAQ H3600 Series Pocket PC H3630, H3635, H3640, H3650, H3660, H3670

Please note, that the H5400 is still not supported.


  • Improved GSM call quality in low signal strength areas
  • Improved GPRS connection reliability
  • Improved reliability and throughput of GSM data connections
  • GPRS throughput and reliability increased when highly mobile
  • GPRS connection startup time reduced
  • Application software stability on iPAQ
  • SIM Application toolkit support (SAT) added
  • Fixed Dialing Number (FDN) enhancements
  • USSD (unstructured supplementary services data) support added
  • Display of IMEI and serial number by entering *#06#
  • Proper display of network name and other messages in dialing window
  • Support for dialed numbers ending with a # symbol

I haven't updated my Wireless Pack so far (cause I haven't seen it before - thanks to Bruno Corrada for the link) but will do it tomorrow.

So far it looks like all the stability problems have been fixed with this ROM update.  I don't seem to have GPRS reception around here right now, so I can't test that.  But GSM and SMS is working great.  No operation not allowed errors, recieving SMS emails now works properly, no resetting, etc.
One bug I've already noticed is that if you restore you're iPAQ's memory from a Backup, the bluetooth icon disappears on the H3970 after attaching the GSM/GPRS expansion pack.  That could be just me though.

I have a IPAQ PC h3660. I want to add to it wireless capabilities, so I can use it as a mobile phone, can dial and receive calls, etc. and with excellent voice capabilities. What accessories should I buy? help is needed thanks.
