Microsoft yesterday released ActiveSync 3.8 which is the latest synchronization software for Windows Mobile-based Pocket PCs and Smartphones. ActiveSync 3.8 contains fixes making synchronization more trouble free than ever before and includes all the significant improvements brought to you in ActiveSync 3.5, 3.6, and 3.7.1: it is easy to install and use while offering the best levels of reliability.

While version 3.8 is - as before - a "bug fix" only without any new functionalities it's highly recommended to upgrade from your previous ActiveSync version as soon as possible to get a - hopefully - more stable and faster synchronization.

Microsoft provided the following information about improvements and fixes:

"ActiveSync 3.8 contains a set of security enhancements that provide a more secure syncing experience with a Windows PC, specifically:

  • Windows XP SP2 security pop up warnings that appear the first time a Windows Mobile devices is docked have been eliminated
  • Remote PC Sync (via Wifi or LAN) is turned off by default. However, users can turn this functionality back on."

ActiveSync 3.8 supports Microsoft Windows XP, Windows 2000, Windows Millennium Edition, Windows NT Workstation 4.0 with SP6 or later and Windows 98. To sync your Calendar, Contacts and/or Tasks and Notes you need Microsoft Outlook 98 or later
