Motorola has just released an OTA (over the air) update for its first Android smartphone - the Motorola Cliq - which is on sale in the U.S. by T-Mobile. Firmware version 1.3.18 provides improvements to the Motorola Cliq's battery life for an enhanced battery performance, touchscreen sensitivity which improves the sensitivity and response, faster GPS performance for applications like Google Maps, geotagging of photos and other GPS functions, and other functions outlined below. For optimal performance, Motorola encourage users to download and install this latest software update.
Other improvements include better audio routing which repairs audio routing to prevent spontaneous speakerphone activations during calls and the random occurrence of music playback through the earpiece instead of appropriate external speakers as well as improved caller notification with an improves user interface performance, consistently notifying a user when a new call is coming in, reducing missed call notifications.
Other enhancements include support For additional Windows Media formats more media formats including .WMA and .WAV Windows media files, Bluetooth improvements which allows a Bluetooth car kit to sync the Cliq so the car kit can display the names of incoming callers, download phone book contacts so calls can be made from the car kit display and allows you to view the call history list from the car kit display, SIM card management import, export or delete as well as additional device stability to reduce occurrence of unresponsiveness and/or programs quitting unexpectedly.
Furthermore Motorola has added the latest available versions of Google apps like Maps, Talk, YouTube, Market and more. Also updated was Quickoffice which allows to read, edit or create Microsoft Office documents with the latest, preloaded version of Quickoffice.
In addition to this interim update, it was recently announced that Cliq users can expect to see a software upgrade to Android 2.1 at a later date. While Motorola hasn't given any further information it, it will share further details on the timing of the release as they are available.
Not yet available is the same update for the Motorola Dext which is the same device but on sale in Europe.
