Last week, O2 UK released a ROM update for their Xda IIs Pocket PC Phone Edition (aka HTC Blue Angel) Version 1.31.139 is available for you to download now and fixes/changes the following items: an on-screen button to quickly flick between Landscape and Portrait modes fro O2 Active User Interface, repositioning of the O2 icon, (finally) Bluetooth build 3500 - featuring improved pairing, compatibility and operation and last but not least general operational updates, improving power management and device stability.

The ROM update is available from O2 UK's Xda micro site. Please keep in mind: this ROM was designed to work with O2 UK's version of the HTC Blue Angel only! The ROM update deletes all files from your Xda IIs so better synchronize before you update but don't use backup/restore since some system files might be changed as well.

Cheers ~ Arne

Can you tell me if the O2 Rom Update for the XDA IIs can be used on the MDA III from T-Mobile.

Posted by Arne Hess on 06.03.05 - 01:39:28

[1] No, you can not use the ROM with a T-Mobile MDA III (not without tweaks you might find at The basic ROM update installation denies to install ROM A on Device B.

[2] Thanks for that Arne, I'm sure that will have saved many hours of grief.
Do you or anyone know if the pinouts on the XDA II connector are the same as the pinouts on the XDA IIs / MDA III.

[3] Yes, basically the pin-outs are the same except a small knob which should prevent from using Xda II cables. However, if you are careful, you can use the same cables without problems.

[4] Thanks, that saves me buying 2 new in-car holders for GPS because I can physically make the MDA III fit but was not sure about the pinouts.
Thanks again, GWO

[5] can it be used if the xda iis device is being used primarily in the united states under t-mobile's service?  the only version that is offered that is remotely close would be the uk version.  there shouldn't be any language issues, should there?

We have tried this upgrade on two O2 XDA IIs's in my company. On both, we have the following symptoms:-
Hangs every few hours needing soft reset.
Battery life only a couple of hours - unit also gets very hot
Today screen doesn't display properly

Anyone else with these problems or know how to fix?

I too had problems with the XDAii-S hanging, freezing, locking.  There is no way that a quality device should need to be soft reset as regularly as 4 times/day.

Here;s the solution.  Use Explorer to get to /windows/startup.  Cut the file called "connections" from that folder and place it in My Documents.  Then do a SOFT reboot... and that should improve things substantially.
