While we are talking about Orange and the C550; Orange also made the long awaited ROM update for the Orange SPV C500 available which includes some general Microsoft Windows Mobile 2003 enhancements as well as some Orange/HTC fixes.
First of all, like all Windows Mobile Smartphone which includes the Windows Media Player 10 Mobile player, this ROM is based on Microsoft's latest AKU 2.5. AKU's mostly includes fixes - it's a kind of a "patch day" for Windows Mobile devices but also includes from time to time feature enhancements (as before with the MSN Messenger update). The AKU 2.5 also includes the latest Windows Media player - Windows Media 10 Mobile (read about its enhancements here). In addition, Orange also announced that the SPV C500 will work better with THB car kits.

Fixes and Enhancements

  • Microsoft Windows Mobile AKU 2.5 for Smartphone
  • Windows Media Player 10
  • MP3 support for ringtones, including miniSD card support
  • Latest PV Player version
  • Latest HTC media album
  • Support of GPRS class 10 (updated from GPRS class 8 )

Generally, Windows Mobile upgrades are worth but this time you have to keep in mind, that TomTom 4 (not sure about TomTom 5) will not work on the updated C500 anymore (read more about it at MSMobileNews.com). So if you are using TomTom, better wait until TomTom have released a fix.

Cheers ~ Arne
