Skype just launched Skype 3.0 Beta for Windows Mobile. Beside some fixes it includes two great new features: SMS and file transfer. With Skype 3.0 Beta for Windows Mobile you can send text messages from your phone at Skype's low rates as well as you can send and receive files with your Skype contacts around the world. Furthermore the Skype developer team spruced up the user interface and combined the Windows Mobile Pocket PC (touchscreen) and Smartphone (non-touchscreen) apps into a single download.

Now that Skype for Windows Mobile supports file transfer, you can send and receive documents on the move. Of course, Skype-to-Skype file transfers are secure and private, so you can send sensitive documents in the knowledge that they're safe from prying eyes, even across unsecured WiFi networks.

When you're abroad, for instance connected to a WiFi, the new SMS feature is a great way to avoid mobile roaming charges since you pay only Skype's low SMS rates to send messages to friends and family. Of course, roaming charges may apply if you're connecting to Skype using a 2 or 3G network.

For sure, Skype 3.0 Beta for Windows Mobile still supports free Skype-to-Skype calls, free Skype-to-Skype instant messaging as well as call to landline and mobile phones with Skype Credit or a subscription.

Skype 3.0 Beta for Windows Mobile is compatible with Windows Mobile Professional and Windows Mobile Standard smartphones (5.0, 6 and 6.1) and requires a minimum free storage memory of at least 12 MB on your device or 6 MB free if you are installing on a memory card.

Cheers ~ Arne
