Today is five months sharp as Spb Diary came to the market. During this period Spb Diary has been significantly improved and became the number one bestselling PIM today plug-in. Thousands of people use Spb Diary on a daily basis. We have got a lot of feedback, mostly positive, sometimes people complained about something. Spb is constantly listening to their customers' feedback and continues to improve Spb Diary.

Today Spb Diary 1.6 is released. The new version's main goal is not to add new exciting features but to make the existing software more reliable and robust.

SPB has analyzed the months-long feedback and found out what are the most important things to be improved in Spb Diary:

  • Windows Mobile 5 support added
  • Installation to storage card is possible now
  • Import/Export settings implemented
  • Contact list loading is speeded up significantly
  • Hardware keys handling for 2002 and 2003 devices re-implemented
  • Portuguese localization added
  • Several category icons per item can be shown now
  • Changing of time zone is handled
  • The bug regarding creating contacts with empty name fixed
  • Other minor bugs fixed

Most important compatibility issue which is solved now is working with Windows Mobile 5.0. A number of new mobile devices with the new OS have appeared recently. Some parts of the system changed a lot which required review and sometimes completely rewrite the corresponding parts of Spb Diary. Extensive testing was done to make sure that the new version of Spb Diary is fully compatible with the new operating system.

Another very popular feature request is the ability to install Spb Diary to build-in storage. There is a well-known system issue which does not allow Today plug-ins to be installed anywhere but main memory. This problem has a somewhat unfair solution used by some developers. The program pretends to be installed to the built-in storage (storage card), while in actual truth more than a half of it is "silently" installed into the main memory; only a smaller part (usually not more than options) is really installed where declared. Usually the user has no idea of this trick believing that the program took no main memory. SPP solved the problem in more fair way. By some technical reasons SPB could not completely avoid occupying the main memory, but the maximum possible part of the program is installed where user wants, either in the built-in storage or even on a storage card.

Another solved problem is the contact list loading speed. People who have several hundreds or even thousands contacts were always complaining about the loading speed of the Contacts tab, the contacts are now loading up to 10 times faster!

During the extensive beta testing of the new version, SPB has got a lot of positive feedback. People liked the changes and reported significant improvements.

For current SPB Diary users, the update is free of charge - for sure. The full version costs US$ 14.95 only and SPB also offers a trial version.

Cheers ~ Arne
